What is Adolescent Psychotherapy
Adolescent Psychotherapy is, essentially, support for teens and young adults. The journey from childhood to adolescence—and indeed, onto adulthood—is full of challenges. Psychotherapy and Counselling can support a young person’s developmental process as they navigate their way, to develop a unique and independent identity. Therapy for adolescents and young adults is relaxed and interactive, involving a mixture of talk and creativity, all occurring in the setting of a confidential and collaborative therapeutic relationship. The process of therapy helps the young person to figure out dilemmas, make meaning of experiences, understand confusing thoughts and feelings, and foster thoughtful action and choice.
I work with teenagers and families in a focused and supportive way so that the adolescent journey is less “storm and stress” and more “energy and direction”. I work with adolescents from 13 to 17 year old's.
Adolescent therapy is offered in three parts:

1: Initial Assessment with Adolescent and Parent(s)
2: Parent Assessment Session
3: Individual Adolescent Session
Art Therapy

Art therapy is a therapeutic approach that utilises artistic media and creative methods to foster self-expression and introspection within a supportive therapeutic environment. When words fall short, art therapy provides an alternative means of communication, allowing individuals to convey and explore their thoughts and emotions through various artistic forms. The primary aim of art therapy is to enhance mental health and support emotional-being. No previous artistic experience is required; the emphasis is on the process of creation rather than the end result. "It is only in being creative that the Individual discovers the self.” - D.W. Winnicott
Sand Tray Therapy
Sand Tray Therapy is an expressive therapeutic approach appropriate for both adults and teens. In each session, clients are given a variety of miniature objects and figures to arrange in trays of sand, allowing them to create imagined landscapes or represent past and present experiences. Because the process is non-directive, interacting with the sand can become a therapeutic experience that requires no artistic skill. By building these “miniature worlds,” clients can access emotions and memories that may be difficult to articulate in traditional talk therapy or that lie outside conscious awareness.
While play is the natural language of childhood, adults often lose touch with this spontaneous way of expressing themselves and may become overly analytical. Engaging in the sand tray process helps clients reconnect with their imaginative and playful selves, offering opportunities for insight and healing—particularly in relation to early experiences or trauma. This approach also encourages self-reflection, supports the exploration of solutions, and fosters greater self-acceptance and compassion. ‘The hands know how to solve a riddle with which the intellect has wrestled in vain’ ― Carl Gustav Jung
